What is Invisalign?

Want to get a straighter smile but worried about wearing braces? Fear no more!

Maybe you never got braces as a child and worry that now that you are an adult braces would look a bit silly. After all, maybe you dislike the idea of having to sport metal mouth for up to a year or more around friends, family and colleagues. But what if your Niskayuna, NY Invisaligndentists Dr. Kent Molino and Dr. Todd Vaccaro told you that there is a way you could get the smile you’ve always wanted without other people noticing your treatment?

What is Invisalign?

Maybe you’ve already heard a little bit about Invisalign. It has become a popular way for both teens and adults to get a straighter smile more discreetly. This series of nearly invisible aligners are made from thermoplastic material and are custom-made for your smile to help you achieve your smile goals.

The purpose of each aligner is to make small changes to the shape of your smile by moving certain teeth a specified amount during your treatment. Your Niskayuna Invisalign dentist will plan each tooth movement and shift ahead of time.

How does it work?

Once your aligners are created and you placed the first set over your teeth it will start to slowly move them into the proper position. You will wear each aligner for about two weeks before replacing them with the next set. Through controlled force and timing your Invisalign works with your smile to effectively move teeth where they need to go.

What should I expect from my treatment process?

Everyone’s treatment will be a bit different and the severity of your dental issues will also determine your length of treatment. On average, adults tend to wear their Invisalign aligners for about one year, while for teens the average length of treatment is comparable to that of traditional braces.

Once you get your aligners your main job is to wear them as much as possible. What makes them convenient is that they can be removed, which means no dietary restrictions and no unnecessary and complicated changes to your oral care regime. Invisalign easily fits into your schedule.

Also, you’ll come in to see us every six weeks to make sure that everything is going according to your treatment plan. These visits are a great time to ask any questions about caring for your Invisalign or to address any concerns you may have.

Our Niskayuna dental office is pleased to now offer Invisalign clear braces. Call us today to schedule your orthodontic consultation to find out if this is the right treatment for you.
